The Aftonbladet Group operates in the media industry and its main activities are in two business areas: Newspaper Publication and New Media. The Group’s media assets include the largest Nordic newspaper, Aftonbladet, as well as the leading Swedish online newspaper, aftonbladet.se. Aftonbladet Tillväxtmedier is currently Sweden’s most successful web holding company, with 19 subsidiaries and over 20 sites. Notable businesses include Hitta.se (directory site), Prisjakt (price comparison service) and Tasteline (food site).
In 2008, a “new” Aftonbladet was created, with 4 business areas: Kvällstidningen (the evening newspaper), Nya Medier (new media), Tillväxtmedier (growth media) and Mobil (mobile phones). Kvällstidningen and Nya Medier were joined at the year-end - not in one company but in a closer collaboration in order to achieve the goal of becoming the leading disseminator of news.
In 2009, Schibsted coordinated the operations of Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet and formed a new Schibsted Sverige, which has its own group management. The objective is to strengthen the strategic implementation ability, increase the pressure on the market and cut costs. Part of the plan involves the possible collocation of the two newspapers in a separate media house.
