Emap plc described itself as a brand-led, multiplatform media group with a portfolio of over 200 brands that inform, entertain and connect communities. It operated in the consumer media market through its lifestyle and specialist magazines, digital, commercial radio and music TV businesses. The Company’s B2B media activities comprised events, information products and professional publications.

Emap plc was no.1 trade exhibition organizer in UK, no.2 consumer magazine publisher in UK, no.2 biggest UK commercial radio group. It had 50 lifestyle and specialist consumer magazines, 42 local and 8 national commercial radio stations, 7 digital TV channels and organises over 400 B2B events internationally.

Heinrich Bauer Verlag acquired Emap's consumer and radio brands in February 2008, incl. the men's magazines and women's weeklies. Completion of the sales of Consumer Media and Radio were both conditions of the proposed acquisition of Emap plc by Eden Bidco Limited, announced on 21 December 2007.

In March 2008 Emap plc was acquired by Eden Bidco Ltd, a joint venture between Apax Partners and Guardian Media Group plc. The listing of Emap shares on the Official List has been cancelled and consequently Emap shares ceased to be admitted to trading on the London Stock Exchange.
