Scandinavian Pulp & Paper Reports

France Soir (SA Presse Alliance)

Country: France

Region: Europe

Price: 195 EUR

Description:

France Soir is a French daily newspaper which was originally founded as the underground paper Défense de la France in 1944. Top-selling newspaper in France in 1961, with an average of over one million copy sales, has been fighting to survive in recent years. As of 2007, only slightly over 21,000 copies were being sold per day.

France Soir is one of many French national newspapers struggling with declining circulation and tough market conditions. During the last few years, the national titles in France have been reporting declining sales and circulation figures due to huge production costs, powerful labor unions controlling the market, and huge competition from other media, especially Internet.

Managed by a series of different publishers over the years, the newspaper became more sensationalist in content in an attempt to revive sales. On June 7, 2006, France Soir was relaunched, after more than one and a half months of absence, under a new direction of being what is called France's first proper tabloid newspaper.
