AD NieuwsMedia was formed in September 2005 as a joint venture of Wegener and PCM Uitgevers. Wegener had a shareholding in the joint venture of 37%, PCM Uitgevers of 63%. The control of the company was shared on a 50/50 basis. On 31 July 2009, Wegener (a majority-owned unit of Mecom Group since 2007) sold its 37% shareholding in AD NieuwsMedia to PCM Uitgevers.

Today, AD NieuwsMedia is the publisher of the nationwide newspaper AD with 22 daily regional editions.
